Men In Black III – Movie Review
I finally had a chance to watch Men In Black III, which is the third (and possibly final) movie in the Men In Black series. The first Men In Black movie was released in 1997, and the sequel was released 5 years later in 2002. Finally, after 10 years of waiting; Men In Black III has been released. I really like the series as the movies provide nice action scenes, but also feature quite a bit of comedy. It is hard to say if this is going to be the last movie of the franchise or not. Given the gaps between releases, perhaps there will be another released in 2020… who knows. Men In Black 3 was released on May 25th 2012 and is rated PG-13. The runtime for the movie is 106 minutes which works well for the film. The budget was a whopping $375 Million dollars, and so far it has only earned $69 Million which seems a little low to me. The cast of the film are: Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, Jemaine Clement, Emma Thompson, Alice Eve, and many other famous stars.
Men In Black III starts off showing a high security prison built on the moon which is used by the Men In Black to contain aliens which are a threat to the planet. Within the jail is a notorious alien known for destroying many planets in the solar system. The prisoner is Boris The Animal, however he insists that everyone call him just Boris. Just like regular prisons, Boris is allowed visitors and this is where things go bad. A female visitor comes and brings a cake for Boris which contains a small little crab like alien which kills the guards and then crawls into a hole in Boris’s hand. He ends up escaping the jail and makes his way to earth. Boris is set on getting revenge on Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) who is responsible for shooting off his arm and sending him to jail on the moon. Using a time machine that an alien on earth owns, Boris goes back in time to kill K.
Sadly, this is the last of Tommy Lee Jone’s part in the movie since the younger version of K is played by Josh Brolin. Don’t get me wrong, Josh Brolin does an excellent job in this film but I have always like Tommy Lee Jones’ style in movies. It is now up to Agent J (Will Smith) to go back in time in order to prevent Boris from killing Agent K. The time travel is pretty interesting and allows for a lot of new information to be provided about the Men In Black organization. You also find out more about the characters backgrounds and how they became they way they are in the present time. Will Smith does a great job in the film which isn’t really a big surprise as he did an awesome job in the previous movies as well.
Overall, I thought Men In Black 3 was a great movie no matter what your age. It has elements from several different genres and should appeal to pretty much everyone. The movie would be good to see with your family, on a date, or just watch it alone. I already own Men In Black I and II on dvd so I will definitely be adding Men In Black III to my collection. Whether or not you have seen the movie, please leave some comments below on your thoughts and opinions.
