Breach – Movie Review
The one thing that I enjoy more then a good spy movie is a good spy movie that is based off a true story. One of my favourites is the movie ‘Breach’ which was released on February 16, 2007. Breach has an MPAA rating of PG-13 and is 110 minutes in duration. The cast in this movie includes some great actors and actresses including Ryan Phillippe, Chris Cooper, Laura Linney, Caroline Dhavernas, Gary Cole, and many more. The performances in this film are superb and do a great job of conveying the characters.
‘Breach’ is about the real life story of FBI agent Robert Hanssen who worked for the agency from 1979 until 2001. During his employment, Hanssen held many different roles including counter intelligence, information technology, and even at one time was in charge of discovering who was leaking intelligence to the Russians. Robert Hanssen seemed to be upset with the way the agency and the country was going so he decided to sell secrets to the Russian government. His main motivations didn’t seem to be money and was more to make a change in policy by forcing the FBI to take action and fix the problems that Hanssen was exploiting.
A young FBI operative named Eric O’Neill was selected and given the job of working with Robert Hanssen and gaining information on him. O’Neill was originally part of the intelligence gathering team and was enthused to be moving up in his career. While working with Hanssen, Eric finds himself torn between believing that Robert is actually behind the accusations being made against him. As time goes on, Eric starts to realize that Robert definitely could be a threat and he carries out his duties of gathering intelligence and helping the FBI get access to Robert Hanssens personal documents.
Overall, ‘Breach’ is a great movie and I suggest everyone gives it a view. If you are into spy drama type films, then you will definitely enjoy Breach and I would recommend purchasing it. The movie is full of suspense and keeps you thinking. I prefer the DVD or Blu Ray because it comes with lots of bonus footage and commentary. Some of the bonus footage I think should have made it into the film, but at least it is included on the dvd. ‘Breach’ is a good movie to watch either alone or with friends / family.Breach Movie Rating: 8 stars out of 10
Breach Rating Summary: I am giving ‘Breach’ eight out of ten stars because it is an excellent spy drama film and is based off of real life events. As a fan of spy dramas, I think that this is one of the best movies in the genre that I have seen. The overall mood in the film as well as the acting really does a great job of adding suspense for the viewer. If you are looking for a good spy drama and have not seen ‘Breach’ then I strongly encourage you to give it a shot.
